First SC NAACP President Lonnie Randolph accuses Rudy Giuliani of being too cozy with the South’s most famous symbol (an accusation absurd enough to make your head spin) and now this. Like the Republican Party and abortion or the Southern Poverty Law Center and the virtually non-existent Ku Klux Klan - the NAACP secretly never really wants the Confederate flag to go away, as it gives them both a reason to exist and to rile up the rank-and-file. From the Charlotte Observer:
COLUMBIA –Leaders of the South Carolina NAACP will re-ignite their effort to remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds this month.
They hope the presence of two Democratic presidential front-runners adds weight to the annual rally.
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are scheduled to attend the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday march and rally Jan. 21, just days before Democrats in this early primary state go to the polls.
The NAACP hopes the candidates and the national attention they’ll bring will spotlight the divisive flag that flutters alongside one of the city’s busiest streets.
“America is a mean country and South Carolina is a meaner state,” said Lonnie Randolph, president of the state chapter of the NAACP. “For the government of this state to continue to endorse bigotry, racism and white supremacy, we are going to continue to raise our voice and speak out against it.”
I’m quite sure Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards will fall in line and say what’s expected of them. Most of the Republicans are just as bad. Read more here

The NAACP clearly chooses to remain in the dark about the true meaning of such symbols. Since the early 1990’s they have attacked the Sons of Confederate Veterans (a peaceful organization that has members of every race and does not allow known racists to become members) for displaying the flag that their ancestors fought and died for. The NAACP has already achieved Civil Rights and has no reason to exist anymore. So now they attack harmless symbols of their fellow Americans’ heritage to feel imprtant. Plus I just thought Id add that William DuBoise(the founder of the NAACP) was a known member of the communist party and thus an enemy of American Freedom.
You said it all Southern Avenger. Good job.
Obama represent the kind of change the Democratic party fought 40 years to get. The very thing that drew the Clintons to politic so many years ago. To have a man judged based on the content of his charachter not the color of his skin.
Mayor Bloomgerg is telling his friends that if Obama wins he will not run. The reason, he does not want to been seen as retarding progress, and keeping the first African-American from becoming president.
This is what the Clintons risk doing, by fighting against a core principle of the Democratic party they appear petty an power hungry. How can they fight against the very thing they claim to have fought 40 years for, to have a black man afforded the opportunity to seek the presidency of the United States?
The more they fight against the Obama movement, the more they appear like the same people who told Dr. King to slow down, who told Dr. King that America was not ready for the type of equality he sought. THe very people who told Dr. King to wait till next time. They appear to be on the wrong side if history, to not understand the ‘fierce urgency of now’ A terrible place for their legacy to end.
The Clintons may be better off dropping out sooner rather than later, and get behind the movement. Otherwise even if they win the nomination they will end up doing a disservice to the very movement tht drew them to politics in the first place.

If he thinks this is so true, then why doesn’t he and his group just move down to Africa, and see how well they like it down there!(I THINK NOT)
I am really surprised to see Clinton and Obama taking stands against the Confederate flag. This is an historic opportunity to have a female or black president and I thought that Clinton’s and Obama’s supporters would not want them to lose any votes because of opposition to the flag.
Not one but three Confederate flags were removed from the Statehouse building — the flag over the dome and the two flags in the legislative chambers. The flag is no longer displayed in a “position of sovereignty.” IMO most people are satisfied with the compromise and if it were not for the agitation by the NAACP, the flag on Statehouse grounds would probably not be an issue.
I quit watching and going to Nascar events and NCAA college sports. I surely will quit voting for Democrats and support Dr. Ron Paul, a true friend of FREEDOM.
Cecil, your comments say it all about so many backwoods South Carolinians. “Go down to Africa”??? How many Klan robes do you own?
“Mayor Bloomgerg is telling his friends that if Obama wins he will not run. The reason, he does not want to been seen as retarding progress, and keeping the first African-American from becoming president.”
So in other words his race is what is important not his planks or position; his race.
Relics like the NAACP and the over the top support by mainstream media is a classic example why someone like Ron Paul should be president.
I don’t know why people are upset over Obama not liking
the Confederate flag, Hell” he don’t like the American
flag ether, will not wear an American pin, salute an
American flag,” come on” his a Muslim. His dad was a Muslim,
he studied Islam in Jakarta, Muslim’s are not allowed
to serve no other but Islam and a state of Islam, he is going for the Islamic vote and doing so by not giving
allegiance to our flag much less the country.
Bookard Dooley,
I retired after serving in the Marine Corps for over 20 years and I choose not wear an American flag pin, nor do I put my hand over my heart during the playing of the National Anthem. I do not need to display overt examples of my “Americanism” or my “allegiance” nor should anyone be compelled to.
But I guess by your “true American” litmus test I fall short.
Your comment about Islam shows both an incredible ignorance of people and the influence of Muslim voters in the US. You sound like the alarmists of 1960 that were afraid that electing JFK president meant the US would answer to the Pope.
I’m a Republican and I voted yesterday for Obama.
“Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”
“I don’t mind people wearing pins or putting stickers on their cars as a show of support for their country or their cause. I am, however, irritated by the notion that so doing makes them somehow superior to those who don’t.”
I agree.
