On Tuesday, Texan Ron Paul held on to his seat in the U.S. Congress, when he defeated Republican primary challenger Chris Peden. There is no Democratic opponent running against Paul.
Paul won his 11th term in a landslide victory - 70% to Peden’s 30%.
Peden was a de facto representative of the neoconservative faction of the Republican Party, who had had enough of Ron Paul running his mouth about genuine conservatism during the presidential campaign. They claimed Paul was a “liberal” and Peden was a “true conservative,” yada, yada, yada. Which is sort of like “punk” princess Avril Lavigne questioning the punk rock credentials of Johnny Rotten.
Regardless, the neocons had hoped Peden would take Paul out of the game completely, and even distorted, misreported and downright-lied about the political dynamics of the Paul/Peden race, to create their preferred outcome. It didn’t work, obviously.
Am I being a “kooky,” conspiracy-minded Ron Paul supporter by making such accusations? You decide.
Thanks to Johnny Kramer at lewrockwell.com for compiling this:
“Writing in November in The Hill, a prominent Congressional newspaper, Texas-based GOP pollster David Hill wrote, “Recent polling by another Texas Republican pollster confirms that Paul’s electorate doesn’t appreciate the increasingly leftish libertarian bent of Paul’s voting record. In the eyes of voters, Paul is now also wrong to oppose the Patriot Act, off base on energy policy that affects Texas enormously, and to be faulted for knee-jerk opposition to the fight against terror in the Middle East. The difference this time is that Paul’s critics have a bona fide challenger lined up: Chris Peden, a mainline social conservative who has distinguished himself opposing the tax hijinks of local elected officials. If Paul files to run for both Congress and the presidency by the Jan. 2 deadline, he’ll likely lose to Peden on March 4. That’ll be OK, though. Dr. Paul can just move to New Hampshire where the libertarian Free State Project might try and elect him their first governor, leveraging the boost in name ID and image that his presidential bid will have wrought. Good riddance.”
An ABC News story the day of the primary, similarly titled “Paul in Peril,” described Ron as “fighting for his day job” and “fighting for his political life,” but also offered no evidence that Peden had the slightest chance to win.
Neocon news magazine The Weekly Standard ran an article asserting that Peden was a “serious threat,” that Ron’s “political career might suffer a fatal blow,” and “Unless the Ronulans are willing to move to Texas en masse, he’s probably in serious trouble.”
An article last month in The American Spectator contended that “Paul may genuinely be in trouble.”
But the pièce de résistance was a recent (New Media, but neocon) Pajamas Media story by Roger L. Simon, claiming that (phantom) “internal polling” by both campaigns showed Peden with a “double-digit” lead over Ron. This sort of thing is done frequently in politics, and it’s another perception precedes reality scam.
At no point during this campaign did Peden even come close to outpolling Paul. It simply never happened. Ever. In journalism, suggesting otherwise would be called “unsubstantiated.” To a man on the street it would be called “lying.”
Simply more “fair and balanced” reporting by the establishment media?
Congratulations Ron. At least we’ve still got one honest man in the U.S. Congress.

This whole statement about Nafta is nott even true,,, soon your going to say when Obama live on the news telling reporters No one in his campaign meet with Canadians leader,,,than a few days later ,Obama back tracked,, ya they met but it not what was said,,,,, If Obama don’t know what his own top guys,,, he not going to be much of a leader, No one made Obama lied on tv,,, that all Obama,,, plain and simple,,, can’t blame Hilary,, for that,,, that why I am switching my Vote for Hilary…..
He can not win a big state no matter what anyone say He can not get elected with out winning a big state, and because he lied about Nafta, No matter how you cut it,, He lied on video that now one from his campaign meet with the canadians,, but ti was true, show you how barack going to run the show, and because of his wife
Michelle Obama is hurting Barack Campaign she need to get off the campaign trail,,, Really she look like Mike tyson with Hair for god sakes.
Barack is not going to win the presidency,,
He can not even win 1 big state,,, Everyone is caught up in this Barack Obama magic show, the democrats just gave this campaign away to the republicans, Barack will never see the white House only if he takes a tour,,, The Obama campaign
think if Hilary gone he will pick up the other half of the Democratic votes,,, that is where he is wrong,,,He will only pick up a third of Hilary votes, the there 2/3 well half of them are going to act like obama voter if obama don’t win they are not going to vote ,,, 1/3 of Hilary voter will not vote,,and the other third is like me I voted for Hilary
I am voting for Experience, which is Hilary,, if Hilary is pushed out ,, My vote like tens of thousands are going to vote for McCain,,, If Obama get Hilary to be her vice president,, Obama will still lose, but if Hilary win she will take the presidency Obama can be vice president,, so he can get On the job training ,,,, this is the only way its going to work,,, American people are so dumb,, thinking Obama got a shot, even tho he has not won a single big state it going to matter,, Even the Media is finally see that..
Who has more experience, well in order
1 Hilary
2 Ron Paul
3 McCain
4 Barack
That sums it up right there, Hilary in this for the long haul She is fighting Barack , McCain & the Media and she still doing good,, She has half the democratic votes, LOL
Now that is funny,,,,, Do the math,,,
Paul V, you got something wrong:
“Who has more experience, well in order
1 Hilary
2 Ron Paul
3 McCain
4 Barack”
Where is the proof of all this experience that Hillary has? As a first Lady the only things she took part in, FAILED! And if sleeping with someone makes you qualified then I say elect Monica.
Texas would be a nice state if it didn’t have repressive gun laws, high taxes, and a saddening worship of the Federal Government’s “Real-ID”
People who like Ron Paul’s politics but want a place with open carry, shall-issue conceal, NO state income tax, NO state sales tax, and NO “Real-ID”, *ever*, should take a serious look at New Hampshire.
Texas is a great place to live… I have lived here for 26 years. We have No State income tax, and sales taxes vary by county (which we vote on). We do not have repressive gun laws at all! I went to a gun show a few weeks ago and bought a shotgun and 30/30 in a 5 minute transaction and I also bought 2 pistols within 45 minutes. We can carry rifles and shotguns in public with no license, and we can carry pistols with licenses. We also voted to pass a resolution on “gun free zones” at my precinct convention on March 4th. If we can bring it to the state convention (June 12th), then expect to see legislation allowing licensed, law abiding citizens to be able to carry firearms anywhere! This will help stop mass murderers from having “target rich environments” at schools and government offices.
FreedomFest 2008 - Ron Paul has just been confirmed as a speaker and will join our 100 plus speakers and 1,000 plus attendees in Las Vegas on July 10 -12 at Freedomfest 2008. We must continue the campaign to promote the Ron Paul Revolution of liberty, a return to limited constitutional government and free markets to the American public.

The media has done a great injustice to the American citizens by continuing to ignore the one candidate who actually knows what it is going to take to get our country out of the mess we are in.
Honestly, I do not believe the dumb-downed American voters can be blamed, or for that matter the dumb-downed media spinners, I personally blame our government, and what they have allowed our country to become. If I had known back in 2000 that Bush was going to lie to us, and not keep his promise of a humble foreign policy, he most certainly would not have received my vote. He didn’t get my 2004 vote, thank goodness. Obama, McCain, and Hillary are all one in the same, they want continued spending or increased taxes in some form or another. Ron Paul the man noted as a “Kook”, along with his supporters have been telling people for years what has to be done in order to fix our economy. The other candidates with the exception of Paul, Kucinich, and maybe Gravel all maintain that we must get rid the world of terrorists, even at the expense of our country’s economy, and collapse. Well, dear fellow Americans I hope you will be happy with your uneducated votes, and the help you have given our government to destroy our nation. You still have a chance with Ron Paul, he is still running, and will be at the brokered convention in September 2008. Please vote smart, get involved. McCain does not have the necessary delegates for the nomination, do not believe what the media sources or Bush is telling you. Wake up, and do some research please!
Tell me: What would you do if EVERY dollar you earned went to pay only the INTEREST on your credit cards and NOTHING touched the principle…?
Would it matter that you spent your way into debt serving worthy and noble causes…? Your kids and grandkids would still be supporting you until you die!
McCains’s worthy causes or Hillary’s worthy causes or Obama’s worthy causes — it’s ALL the SAME at this point because we are BROKE!!!
And our kids and grandkids will be continuing to pay ONLY the INTEREST on our debts, because that’s all there will be. We can’t GROW out of this mess with the mindset of ANY of the major candidates. The NUMBERS don’t work!
I’ll see you in the soup line. Maybe then you’ll listen to Ron Paul.
STOP!! Stop being led. Led by the press, led by the school, led by the church or the state. Stop for one minute and use common since. Ask questions, follow the money. Who or what group has the most to gain? It’s easy to figure out everything else in our capitalist society once you understand what motivates good and evil.
Please Stop and pay attention the world is about to change and we need thinkers like Ron Paul.
You’re correct about the media blackout of Ron Paul I guess our reporters are afraid of losing their jobs.
Don’t hold your breath for McCain to agree to a debate with Dr. Paul. That would sure show the world how stupid McCain is.
Obama? I have 2 words for you TONY REZCO
Hillary Clinton? Council of Foreign Relations
Wake up America!

only good can come from this movement… as Jesus says ‘you shall know the truth, and it shall set you free’.
it reminds me of a parable that seems so relevant to this discussion, the ‘lamp on a stand(or city on a hill):’
“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefore consider carefully how you listen(”:he who has an ear, let him hear”). who ever has* will be given more; who ever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him” (luke 8:16-18)
if our principles are correct, then the Lord will look favorably on us, and we will see justice, if not immediately. it also reminds me of one final passage (from Ephesians 6):
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the Devils schemes. ** For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.** (NIV)”
Cody, I have been thinking of that exact same verse from Ephesians throughout this whole thing. The more I learn about who REALLY controls this country, the more I reflect on this passage from scripture.
We are supposed to live in a republic, some like to call it a democracy, which it is not. Frankly, I don’t even think it is even a democracy anymore. This country has turned into an oligarchy!!
Welcome to the New World Order!
R.I.P.
Here lies the United States of America and her constitution.
When are the American people going to wake up to the fact that the establishment R and D Neo Con parties do not represent the American people? Tax, spend, and print the rest at interest. Send all the jobs overseas and crash the dollar. 60 trillion dollars in debt! Wake up America!
This is OUR country. Here’s an idea. Let’s take it back !
Anyone notice how when Thompson was the hot ticket, you couldn’t turn on the tv without seeing Diehard 2 being run 3 times a day? What’s on now? Try Iron Eagle and Behind Enemy Lines both 3 times a day. In my opinion, a not so subtle attempt at propping up a certain sell-out POW.
All of the comments before were interesting to me, especially Sue’s…..hmmm, Monica might be a good running mate for someones V.P. (Vice)…lol… ;O)
In past times I voted for the what seemed to be the lesser of evils, but as the Libertarian phylosophy states, Evil is still Evil. As for Libertarian (though I am registered as one), that emerging party has been split by the Ron Paul Revolution and the damage done there doesn’t give a Libertarian Presidential Candidate much of a chance this time around…unless Ron Paul comes into the picture.
As for Hilliary and McCain they are both the same. Obama is part of the general scheme as well, but may not be as corrupt overall.

Jack…………make no mistake, Obama is a Marxist in liberal clothing.
In 1992, Rush Limbaugh said that Bill Clinton was a “socialist” who would take my house and confiscate every piece of property I had.
To this day, I can not think of a single substantive difference between the presidencies of Bush the elder and Bill Clinton - and George W. Bush is worse than both of them.
That “Marxists” like Obama (and Hillary) promote socialism is no more scary or unnerving than the welfare statism of the Republican Party.
If elected, Obama will be another president, just like any other, who maintains the status quo.
And talk radio will be warning us that the next Democrat to run for President after him is a “Marxist” who will spell doom for the United States.
It simply never happens, It’s empty rhetoric. And the Republicans offer no better alternative.
Jack
Jack…..of they don’t have a better solution. Pick your poison.
We’ll get either Marxism or Fascism.
The “talk show” guys were right, Jack.
These democrats have stolen our Constitutional heritage as thieves in the night.
Where the “talk show” guys were wrong is that they were sucked into the Republican rhetoric and bought it “hook, line and sinker”.
The Republicans stole also, and continue to do so, under the cover of “conservatism”. This is the greatest lie, even worse than the democrats, as we knew what the democrats were.
The deceit of the republican Party is unforgivable.
did anyone else notice McCain refer to himself as a ‘federalist’ in a prior debate? Jefferson and Henry feared a strong federal government in their time, let alone the inheritance of current 21st century America. is this not the equivalent to an admission of big government republican principles? not that there was any question, but we already know what McCain will bring us. how can the party stand for this? we clearly represent the anti-federalists of our day
Clarification….there are two Jack’s responding, I’m the one that supports Monica for VICE Pres…
That’s the only one I did, but agree with all the general comments, Freedom is definitely in jeopardy.
