On Jan. 31, Charleston City Paper Managing Editor Chris Haire posted the following:
“The unavoidable truth about the right wing McCain hate
January 31, 2008 – 6:07 pm
Rush Limbaugh detests John McCain.
So does Sean Hannity.
And Ann Coulter.
And Michelle Malkin.
And Mark Levin.
They can bitch and moan all they like, but come November one thing is guaranteed: They will vote for John McCain. They know this. You know this. And McCain knows this. All of this huffing and puffing right now is pure theater, shibai as they say in Hawaii. Any threats they make now are hollow.
Just saying.”
The same day, the following commentary by your truly was broadcast on WTMA, which made the same point Haire did:
I’m listening to Hannity right now, and he’s urging listeners that they must vote for McCain to defeat the “much worse” Obama or Clinton.
Rush Limbaugh congratuled himself on the air this week for not extending the “McCain bloodletting” longer than need be, and said now conservatives must concentrate on making sure McCain defeats the Democratic nominee.
And even the 3rd-rate Mark Levin (I saw “Semi Pro” last night - I think that would be a great title for a Levin biography) now insists that voting for McCain is a necessary evil.
To quote a famous book by Limbaugh - “See I Told You So.”

McCain is the worst thing for our economic troubles right now. He’s said that he knows little (to nothing) about economics, but I think that evolved to a point where he knows how to run an ATM machine now.
On another note:
Maybe ya should review my “hope” for McCain at -

((You can delete this if ya want, but it’s how I feel about the up coming Democrat -v- McCain postings to come in the next few months))
And so goes the downward spiral. Lesser of two evils is what “conservatives” have been doing for some time. The right continues to move steadily left as a result. I guess we really get what we deserve. I’ll never vote for McCain and in fact will vote for the democrat before I ever vote for the lesser of two evils again. We are a lost people and country. We have no backbone anymore and will just eat whatever is being served to us. We have been defeated in our minds and that is much worse that any physical battle could ever do.
I agree with Ernest, and say to Hell with settling for all this “vote for the lesser evil” crap. No matter who ends up in the general election, each ticket will be inexcusably evil. I say “pragmatism” be damned. Hyper-spun media pragmatism is what got us where we are. Vote your conscience–Paul, Kucinich, Nader, Huckabee, whoever. You’re only really “throwing your vote away” if you vote for someone whom you don’t want in office anyway.
John McCain is the best candidate to run this country. He is the only one of the three who has any military experience and just in case some of you forgot, we are at war with an enemy who drew first blood. Stop with all of this best of the worst BS…John McCain is the Best, PERIOD! http://www.ourtownreport.com
And Charleston is such a beautiful place … but, like the rest of SC, a sorry, sorry waste.
McCain is the Aaron Burr of modern American politics.
