I'm voting for Bob. The country is heading down the wrong road right now with the neocons taking us to hell. High gas prices, open borders, unending wars, unprecedented expansions of federal government, yawning trade deficits, recession, high taxes, etc. etc. What is conservative about these things? Where is the "personal responsibility" that Republicans are always so quick to claim as a core value for their ideology? And McCain is little more than a continuance of these failed policies while uttering the same neocon mantras and lip service they give to their political base. If the Republicans don't soon revert to true conservative values, constitutional adherence, and dedication to small government, lower taxes, sound money and true liberty for the American people then they are probably looking at 100 years of dark ages by being marginalized while liberals tax and spend us into the next communist banana republic of the Western hemisphere. One day we will all wake up owned by the juggernaut of China, wall-pappering our houses with worthless fiat currency while our national language will be a bastardized version of Spanish.

I've always referred to my political philosophy as liberal. As a gay man, I should be voting for the Green Party presidential candidate Kent Mesplay because his is the only party with enough guts to make a stand for social equality for gay people. But the Bush regime has so totally screwed up our economy that I may very well vote Libertarian in the next election. I think Bob Barr is right in identifying our our huge war debt and subsequently declining economy as our nation's biggest problem. And I agree with him that our main priority should be to balance the budget. I see a lot of wisdom in the Libertarian platform of extremely limited federal powers, but I don't agree with handing all of that power back over to the states. Without federal intervention, there may not have been a women's vote or a black vote, much less equal rights for either. And the cost of health care, or even medical insurance, is simply too high for many honest, hard-working Americans to afford. I don't think the limited funds and resources of individual states could properly address this problem.
