It’s no secret I’m a huge pro wrestling fan. In fact, there’s only two things I watch on TV – news and pro wrestling. All of the popular shows – American Idol, Arrested Development, The World’s Next Top Chef, whatever, I haven’t a clue about. I just found out recently that “Lost” wasn’t a reality show. Because of the name, I honestly thought it was.
Perhaps this makes me pop-culture illiterate. I can live with that. What I can’t live without is my favorite mindless pastime and I can hardly wait to see the new critically-acclaimed Mickey Rourke film “The Wrestler,” which opens in Charleston at the Terrace Theatre on Friday, Jan. 23. Fox Searchlight has put together a wonderful roundtable dicsussion featuring wrestling legends Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, Diamond Dallas Page, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Lex Luger and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, who praise and discuss the film.
The last time I saw Valentine, he was wrestling in the parking lot of a Baptist Church in Summerville. Rourke’s character, just from the trailers, reminds me a lot of Valentine.

I prefer sports which express the beauty of the human body: gymnastics, high diving and dance.
Damn Jack!…….Listen closely. Profesional wrestling is not a sport, but entertainment much like choreography. When grown men over 200 lbs actually hit each other in the nose and face, blood flows! Swelling accurs! And the legs say “Goodby”!
If you like “Choreography”, choose a good topless bar, and watch some naked women work a pole!
That being said, I still think that you are brilliant on political evaluation.
