Under Bush, the conservative movement became what it is now — a mere tool of the Republican Party. In the past, there were many on the Right who wrote books, promoted philosophies, and endorsed policies they hoped might eventually become political and cultural realities, and they often considered the GOP the better party to help implement more conservative politics.
Today, we have the exact opposite, as the pundits and pontificators who represent popular conservatism have abandoned ideas or principles for pure party partisanship.
What conservatism has the Bush era produced? Exploding government, enhanced state power, reckless spending, increased federal programs, open borders, starting a needless and costly war — the list is endless — and yet most self-described mainstream conservatives have little criticism for this catastrophe of a president.

Well said Jack!……At age 56, I can remember as far back as the early seventies when myself and conservatives looked at each other, and screamed “Someday in our lifetime, we will have a Conservatve/Republican POTUS and CONGRESS at the same time!”
And along comes “Dubya”?……And a Congress of “Bathroom Perverts”, “Grahamnesty Idiots”, “Hollywood Thompsons”, “Guiliani Julias in drag”, “Mcamnesty”, and “Nut-Job Preachers” claiming “This is Conservatism”!!!
Wo!……Not what we conservatives of the Goldwater era expected?……Kind of makes us realise that the “Conservative Dixiecrats” had more brains than the entire GOP!(Gutted Our Principles)…..And reminded us of our Grandfather’s weird statement that “With the Republicans, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.”
We been had!……..I’m now a secessionist and believe that General Robert E. Lee had it all figured out.(Happy Birthday Stonewall Jackson!”)
There has not really been any true constitutional conservatives for awhile? Last man standing was George C. Wallace.(And an orator to dwarf all sence him. His 1964 July 4th Speech is so rich in conservatism, that maybe 50 years later people can read and understand it’s wisdom?
